The Letter T

Transferring things from around the house with tongs.

Drawing trees on the letter T.

Tea, both in a bag and loose.

Painting with tea.

I let them have real sugar in the sugar bowl, wildness followed.

We had lots of fun with the letter T this week. We had the most fun with our tea party. There were heart shaped tea sandwiches and cupcakes and real tea (chamomile) and milk and sugar. The tea set was a mix of things given to my girls by several people as gifts, both new and old. Some of the things belonged to kids I used to care for, who are now in college, and who sweetly gave the girls their old tea sets a while ago. The girls were both so very silly, being polite and calling each other Miss Penelope and Miss Violet, until Violet corrected us and informed us that she was Mrs. Violet. Then, as the sugar she'd put in her tea hit her she began to roar a bit. Penelope said "oh, it seems Mrs. Sharptooth has joined us, hello Mrs. Sharptooth". To which a serious for only a moment Violet corrected "Mr. Sharptooth" and then completely lost herself in roaring laughter. I laughed harder than I have in ages, and the girls priceless giggles and unbelievable cuteness   made me so happy.

We also learned about tea, discussing where it comes from and different reasons people drink it. We opened a tea bag to look at loose black tea and we brewed some of it and used it to paint with. The girls loved using tongs to try picking up various items and transfer them from one container to another. And we tried to catch tadpoles, but they were much too quick for us. It was fun trying anyhow, and after it became clear we would not be bringing any tadpoles home we went on a trail walk instead.

  1. I think the Education Police would come get all of you if they ever found out how much fun you make learning. I can't tell you how badly I wish I'd been at that tea party. I even have the very hat for it!
